Zanzibar beaches
Zanzibar allegedly has some of the world’s nicest beaches. The silky white sand beaches of the Indian Ocean are surrounded by clear, crystal-clear waters and vibrant coral reefs. The island of Zanzibar has a few fishing villages and about 25 beaches. Should you stay in the north, go to Zanzibar’s north, or go to Zanzibar’s east?
North: The north and east coasts of Zanzibar have some of the island’s nicest beaches, all of which have pristine white sand and vibrant coral reefs. Due to the lack of high and low tides, Nungwi and Kendwa are among the most well-liked beaches. It boasts a laid-back vibe and offers a variety of restaurants, pubs, and lodging options. Thus, you should travel to a different area of the island if you want true peace and seclusion (like the east or south). Villages like Uroa, Pongwe, Kiwengwa, Nungwi, and Kendwa may be found in the north.
East: The most beautiful beaches are located on the island’s east shore. A stunning coral reef that is one of the best in the world for diving and snorkelling extends along the eastern coastline. The profusion of marine life, including sea horses, turtles, and tropical fish, can be experienced firsthand. These east coast’s beaches are quite tidal. You can stroll down the beach at low tide and take in the ocean sights. This is the ideal location for you if you enjoy kite- or wind-surfing. The longest and one of the most stunning beaches on this side of the island is Matemwe. Similar to the north, there are numerous lodging possibilities.
South-East: Long stretches of soft sand beaches can be found in this region of the island. Due to the consistent winds, it is the greatest location on the island for sailing, kiteboarding, and windsurfing. Go aboard a dhow, a traditional wooden sailboat, and sail the ocean, or visit Kizimkazi and go dolphin-spotting (south). Little settlements like Jambiani, Paje, and Bwejuu can be found here. These little fishing towns are charming and timeless, and the locals are welcoming. Jambiani is one of our favourite communities. See why we believe Jambiani to be the best location in Zanzibar.
South-West: With fewer lodges and empty beaches, the southwest coast is a little more out of the way. Although there are some lovely beaches with calm tides towards the west and south of Zanzibar, these beaches are less frequently visited. Don’t forget to visit Menia Bay Conservation Area if you’re in the south. Divers can explore a beautiful underwater environment here. The interesting old Stone Town, Zanzibar’s centre of culture and history, is located on the western coast.
Best time to visit Zanzibar
The most popular time to visit Zanzibar is during the dry season, from June to October and from December to February. However, Zanzibar Island is a great beach destination all year round. Even during the wet season (mid-March, April, May, November), it is beautiful since the rain showers don’t last much longer than 30 minutes and the temperatures still remain around 28 C. February is the hottest month in Zanzibar (average 28 C), while July (average 24 C) is the coldest. Given its tropical climate, it’s always a good time to visit Zanzibar.
Overview
The great tour includes taking you to interesting House of Wonders, Palace Museums, Mosques and Arab’s Fort among many others during the stone town tour. Afterwards, there will be a visit to spice plantations, the reason that brought the Sultans of Oman, and what started the slave trade. You will also indulge in the white sands and clear waters of the Beach for that much-deserved holiday.
