Lions: Serengeti is believed to hold the largest population of lions in Africa due in part to the abundance of prey species. More than 3,000 lions live in this ecosystem. African Leopard: These reclusive predators are commonly seen in the Seronera region but are present throughout the national park with a population of around 1,000. Serengeti, a UNESCO world heritage site is home to around 200,000 zebras, and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Ngorongoro has long been home to a thriving population of big game species, including great-tusked elephants, healthy black rhinos, and the famous black-maned lions. This is one of the few places in Africa where you can see the Big 5 on a single game drive, and there’s plenty more to see. Gazelle, wildebeest, and zebra herds live here, as do smaller predators such as caracal and serval cats, as well as lions and their eternal adversaries, spotted hyenas.
